Richard Augustus Wagstaff Clark Jr. was born on November 30, 1929. He was born in Mount Vernon, New York. The names of his parents were Richard Augustus Clark and Julia Fuller Clark. Bradley Clark is his sibling.

His brother was killed in the Battle of the Bulge. At the age of 10 years, he decided to become a radio show host.

Clark only attended A.B Davis High School in Mount Vernon, NY. He was an average student throughout his educational career. He also attended Syracuse University to have a degree in advertising and a minor in radio in 1951.
